WEEK #18

Howard     24x30

Ended up going early and got my pictures and statement hung at the Chapel Gallery, North Battleford. My wall space is right by the door and the registration table.

I was surprised to see so many tables - looks like there will be a really good turnout, and a good variety as well.

SPRING INTO ART: Battlefords Art Club Show and Sale Setup

Well, I wasn't sure how much space I'd have, but as far as I know now, I'll have 7 feet instead of 5 feet - so I am going to try to fit a few more pics in - just for fun!

Will see how it goes. Things always look different in the actual gallery.

Artist's Statement:

I lost my dad recently, and while looking through his photo box, I realized how desperately we try to hang on to images and memories.  Most of the old pictures were stained and tattered.  The phrase “earning your wrinkles” came to mind.  What did those paper folds and creases represent?  Perhaps life isn’t always clean and perfect.

I decided to do these two pencil portraits in a timeworn “snapshot” style.  I wanted to catch my dad’s friends in a moment and put them into an environment that would be respectful of the imperfect and often-difficult times that they have had to endure.
